From meal plan to shopping list

  1. Choose the days and meals

Pick the dates you're planning for, which meals you need each day, and how many people are eating at each one.

  2. Pick a recipe for each meal

Choose from your recipe list. One recipe can cover more than one meal, like a big chilli for two dinners, and its amounts are scaled to match.

  3. Check what you already have

Before anything goes on the list, you see every item the plan needs. The things you buy every time come ticked; the ones you might have at home, like spices or oil, are left for you to check.

  4. Send it to the shopping list

Everything you ticked goes onto the shared list, grouped by category. Matching items are combined into one line, and each one shows which meal it's for.

Questions about meal plans and shopping lists

How does it combine ingredients from different recipes?

Every ingredient in a recipe is linked to an item, so the same item from different recipes is recognised as one thing. If two recipes both need onions, they become one line on your list with the amounts added together, and the line shows both meals it's for.

Does it scale recipes for how many people are eating?

Yes. Each recipe has its own number of portions, and when you plan a meal for more or fewer people, its ingredients are scaled to match. You can also scale a recipe on its own while you're cooking from it.

Can I reuse last week’s meal plan?

Yes. Copy any plan to new dates. It starts the day after the old plan ends, so the weekdays line up, and brings across the same recipes and notes. Change what you like, then send it to the list when you're ready.

What about meals that aren't a recipe?

A meal can hold a note, like “Sandwiches” or “Eating out”, and items of its own, like bread and ham. There's also space for things that aren't tied to a day, like snacks for the week. Those items go onto the shopping list along with everything else.

Can I make a list from one recipe without planning the week?

Yes. Open any recipe and add its ingredients straight to the shopping list, at whatever number of portions you like. You still get to tick off what you already have first.
